Waiting for a Carrot Seed to Sprout!

Have you seen this article by TARA PARKER-POPE on A Pediatrician’s Advice on ‘Green’ Parenting? Dr. Greene was an early advocate of environmentally conscious parenting, an issue he explores in his latest book, “Feeding Baby Green: The Earth-Friendly Program for Healthy, Safe Nutrition During Pregnancy, Childhood, and Beyond” (Jossey-Bass, 2009) You can read more at: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com

From the article: "I suggest starting really early with kids, feeding them something green at lunch and dinner so they recognize that as normal — so it seems strange not to have a green vegetable at lunch or dinner. It’s also the “green” that is healthy, whole organic food that is smart for the planet the baby is going to inherit."
The Carrot Seed

Well, I have said all of this to say that I went to our library and found a great children's book and wonderfully illustrated picture book by Crockett Johnson, The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss. She is the creator of Barnaby. In fact, Ruth has written tons of books like Open House For Butterflies and Charlotte and the White Horse, to name a few.

I have to agree with so many that this book is the granddaddy of all picture books. A simple story with simple pictures... I love this book. It is a true classic!

The Carrot Seed
